AtomixMP3 Editor's Review
The anchestor of VirtualDJ, AtomixMP3 remains one of the best starter MP3-mixing suites out there. With its easy-to-use interface and comprehensive online support, even the most amateur DJ is going to be able to get to grips with AtomixMP3’s intuitive interface.
With a standard two deck set-up, you can drag and drop music files straight from your library onto the virtual decks. Standard features include pitch control, 3 band equalisers, crossfader, gain and kills. While the Beatmix! buttons are a handy feature that automatically compares and syncs songs by analysing their rhythm and bpm.
Pros: Lightweight, stable and bug-free, easy-to-use interface.
Cons: No development support since 2003, lacks advanced mixing features, outdated audio effects.
Conclusion: AtomixMP3 has enjoyed no development support since 2003, thanks to the launch of its quasi-child in the popular VirtaulDJ. But that doesn’t mean that this is an outdated piece of software. While it may lack some of the more extensive mixing features of other virtual DJing suites, this is a strong, light-weight and easy-to-use offering. Almost any PC will run AtomixMP3 without single crash or bug; it’s amazingly stable.
The virtual turntables are also simple and intuitive; even amateurs will soon get to grips with basic cross-fading and pitch control. All you have to do is drag and drop music files onto the turntables and you’re off. And while the audio effects might sound a little outdated, there’s certainly enough to start with. Though more serious DJs might want to look toward higher-priced modern options.
Still, AtomixMP3 remains a fantastic starter virtual DJ suite and at under $60, it’s at a very fair price tag compared to some of its competitors.
